Kids

Hello!

My name is Paula, and I have been climbing on and off since I was 13 years old. I began my climbing journey outdoors in the mountains of Colorado and Virginia, where I’m from. Bouldering indoors started appealing to me in my 30’s, as I really enjoyed the convenience (climbing during the evening) and being rope free. My other hobbies include kickboxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, cycling, kayaking and photography.

I was thrilled to discover great indoor climbing gyms like Be Boulder when I moved to Amsterdam in 2019. My grandfather was from the Netherlands, and I started visiting here in 2004 to explore the country and my family routes. Now, I’m happy to call Amsterdam my home.

My first-ever climb was in the Garden of Gods, which is a spectacular “National Natural Landmark” in Colorado. I will never forget it! Getting to the top, feeling the accomplishment and looking down at the surrounding nature made me fall in love with climbing.

I have a bachelors degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with a minor in photojournalism, and have been very active in sports throughout my life. I also have experience teaching photography to children, teenagers and disadvantaged youth, which is part of what inspired me to begin teaching bouldering. Seeing kids and adults conquer climbs, overcome their fears and be genuinely excited about bouldering brings me joy. It is a pleasure to share my passion for climbing and help others build their skillset.

I hope to see you soon at Be Boulder!

Jimmi

Hi! I'm Jimmi, 25 years old, and I live in Amsterdam. I've been passionate about sports from a young age and have developed a wide range of interests. After studying psychology, I became even more interested in movement and sports, a passion that began with capoeira – an acrobatic martial art. Around that time, I also got into climbing and toproping at the climbing gym.

In high school, I discovered bouldering and earned my climbing certification. About a year ago, I truly fell in love with the sport. Since then, I’ve spent more days in the bouldering gym than outside it, diving into everything related to bouldering.

Besides working as a bouldering instructor, I'm also a calisthenics and strength coach at We Are Queer Gym in Amsterdam Oost and West. Calisthenics is a form of strength training that uses your own body weight to build strength and learn various skills. Balance and technique are essential here, and that's exactly what I love about the sports I practice. It’s about learning how to use your body – finding balance, stabilizing, discovering the right positions, facing fears, and developing a mix of flexibility, endurance, coordination, and strength.

I enjoy teaching bouldering lessons and love working with kids. They’re enthusiastic and eager to learn, and it’s amazing to see them build a solid physical foundation at such a young age. Sports can contribute so much to their mental and physical health, and I truly believe in the saying, "Start young, stay active for life!"
